Grupo Modelo, reportedly the last major independent Mexican beer producer, has been bought up by Anheuser-Busch InBev.
For those of you who aren’t paying attention, InBev is the Belgium-based HQ of the Global Beer Industrial Complex. The own Budweiser and darn near every other major beer producer in the world. Not just the USA, Europe, and Mexico, but the entire gosh darn world! They control billions of dollars in beer, the ingredients for beer, the glasses, bottles, and cans we drink beer out of, the advertising dollars that keep major media outlets alive, and of course they contribute to political causes all over the world. Their influence on sports is global (via sponsorships, without which many sports would never happen the way they do now). And everything they touch turns to beer… Ok, well maybe that’s an exaggeration, but not by much.
