InBev, the Belgium-based beer giant, has donated $10k to the Hillary Clinton Campaign. That’s not a big surprise, but what is a surprise is the fact that they haven’t given just as much to some Republicans. Perhaps this is because a clear Republican front-runner hasn’t emerged, beyond Donald Trump. Or, maybe, it’s because they had such good luck with the previous Clinton administration, they are simply getting into bed, so to speak, with Hillary as quickly as possible. We expect a lot more contributions will be forthcoming.
Key to InBev’s decision is likely the massive merger they are attempting with SABMiller, who sells all the various Miller and Coors brands. InBev, of course, own Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), Stella Artois, Becks, Corona, and many others. The resulting company would be responsible for fully one-third of all beer sold in the entire world! InBev is already the world’s largest, and most influential beer company. This merger makes them way bigger and in control of even more of the general public. Getting that merger through all the various legal systems in the civilized world will take considerable political clout. Here, they are buying some.
